When is the best time to get pregnant?

You have more of a chance of getting pregnant if you have sex within a day or so of ovulation (releasing an egg from the ovary). This is usually about 14 days after the first day of your of your period cycle is around 28 days long.

After an egg has being releases it can live up to 12-24 hours after. To actually get pregnant, the egg must be fertilized by a sperm within this time frame. Having sex every couple of days will mean there is always sperm waiting in the fallopian tubes to meet the egg when it is released.

Did you know that sperm can live for up to seven days inside a woman’s body?
If you have had sex in the days before ovulation, the sperm will have had time to travel up the fallopian tubes and wait for the egg to be released. It’s difficult to know exactly when ovulation happens.

What are Pregnancy Hormones?

First of all both men and women have hormones which are chemicals that circulate in the blood. These carry messages to different parts of the body.
The female hormones includes oestrogen and progesterone, and control many of the events of a woman’s monthly cycle, such as the release of the egg from the ovary and the thickening of the womb lining.

When a woman is pregnant her hormone levels change. As soon the woman has conceived, the amount of oestrogen and progesterone increases in the blood. This increases things like the blood supply to the breasts and causes the womb lining to build up and also starts the muscles of the womb to relax to make room for the growing baby.

The woman’s increased hormone levels can affect how she feels, such as mood swings, feel tearful or be easily irritated. You may feel that you do not know why you feel the emotions you are, but these should ease after the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.

Will it be a boy or a girl?

Chromosomes x and y can carry about 2,000 genes. Genes determine a baby’s hair and eye color, blood group, height and build.

A fertilized egg contains one sex chromosome from its father mother and one from its mother. The sex chromosome from the mother’s egg is always the same and is the X chromosome.

The sex chromosome from the father’s sperm can be either the X or a Y chromosome.

If the mother gets the x chromosome form the father the gender will be a girl as its (
If the mother gets the Y chromosome, chromosome, the gender will be a boy (XY).
